Down to Earth Jewelry :: Women's Lapis & Blue Beaded Jewelry
Introduction to Lapis
Lapis lazuli, deriving its name from a Persian word meaning blue, varies from greenish-blue to a purple blue. The most prized color is a dark, intense blue. Lapis lazuli is a composite of many minerals, mostly lazurite, with some calcite and pyrite, which gives it golden flecks. This stone has been mined in Afghanistan for over 6000 years. Lapis lazuli is also mined in Russia, Chili, Burma, Angola, Pakistan and Canada and in the US in California and Colorado.
