Down to Earth Jewelry :: Women's Jade Beaded Jewelry
Introduction to Jade
The Chinese and Japanese have treasured jade for more than 7,000 years. It is considered to be the “good luck stone.” Jade comes in two forms, nephrite and jadeite, both gemstones with similar properties. Both produce hues that range from milky translucent to deep emerald green imperial jade. Since jade is an extremely durable, hard stone, it has often been used to create beautiful carved pieces of art. The most prized jade comes from Burma and is called jadeite or imperial jade. Some of the jade designs in Down to Earth Jewelry include new jade, which is a translucent green serpentine. This serpentine “new jade” has been favored in Europe for over 400 years. There is a story of Rasputin, a monk serving the Russian Tsar Romanov, who was granted anything he wanted as a reward for saving the life of the Tsar’s son. He asked for an entire dinner service made of serpentine stone.
